Changing the way energy is produced…
one continent at a time

North America

Renewable Energy Growth: In 2024, utility-scale solar and wind capacity additions were the largest across all primary generation sources, accounting for close to 90% of all new builds and expansions. Solar capacity growth jumped 88% to 18.6 gigawatts (GW), surpassing hydropower and nuclear as the fourth-largest source of installed capacity.

Wind Energy: Wind capacity additions fell by 14% to 2.6 GW due to supply chain, financing, and permitting challenges. However, wind generation reached a new record, exceeding coal-fired generation for two consecutive months.

Battery Storage: Battery storage accounted for the second-largest share of total generating capacity additions, rising by 64% to 7.4 GW. Residential solar attachment rates are expected to rise from 14% in 2023 to 25% in 2024.

Central America

Renewable Energy Roadmap: Central America is actively engaged in the energy transition, with a focus on expanding renewable generation, energy efficiency solutions, and regional power sector integration.

Regional Integration: The Central American Electrical Interconnection System (SIEPAC) links the electrical grids of six countries (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama), promoting cross-border trade of renewable power.

Clean Energy Corridor: The Central America Clean Energy Corridor (CECCA) initiative aims to accelerate the deployment of renewable power and enhance regional electricity market operations.

South America

Renewable Energy Capacity: As of 2022, the renewable energy capacity in Latin America neared 315 gigawatts, a significant growth of about 75% compared to a decade earlier.

Solar Energy: The installed solar photovoltaic capacity in Latin America and the Caribbean surpassed 45 gigawatts in 2022. With decreasing costs and increasing investment, this trend is expected to continue.

Wind Energy: Offshore renewable energy, including wind, is gaining attention in countries like Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Uruguay. The potential for offshore wind, waves, tides, and ocean currents is being explored3.
